The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research offers a new model of higher education for the 21st century, encouraging a Renaissance of the liberal arts by re-connecting knowledge, ethics and faith via dialogue across geographical, disciplinary, and denominational boundaries. IIR educates academics and students to think holistically. This quest for the unity of knowledge aims to broaden education and intellectual horizons, invigorate teaching, learning and research, improve student outcomes, and increase understanding how a free society is grounded in transcendent norms and values. This educational endeavor seeks to train a new generation of interdisciplinary scholars able to teach and contribute to research and scholarship restoring education as free inquiry that includes moral and spiritual foundations and character formation as essential preconditions for a free, democratic, open society. The Institute’s Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies is a major resource for undergraduate and graduate instruction, especially honors courses, inspired by the classical paideia of educating the whole person–heart, mind and soul.
